Marikina River reaches 15 meters; Ipo, La Mesa Dams at or near critical level

Marikina City rescue teams were on alert Sunday evening after the water level at the Marikina River reached 15 meters.

In a post on its Twitter account, the Marikina City government said Alert Level 1 was in effect as of 7:12 p.m.

"Alert Level 1, 15 meters as of 7:12 p.m.," it said.

The city has a four-stage alarm level system for the Marikina River:

Alarm Level 1, when the water is 15 meters above sea level, means "babala."

Alarm Level 2, when the water is 16 meters above sea level, means "maghanda."

Alarm Level 3, when the water is 17 meters above sea level, means "lumikas."

The fourth, Critical Level, is adopted when the water is 18 or more meters above sea level, and forced evacuation is implemented.

Valenzuela: 2 dams nearing critical level

Valenzuela City said that as of 6 p.m., the water level is critical in at least two dams: Ipo (Bulacan) and La Mesa (Quezon City).

It said the water level at Ipo Dam as of 6 p.m. was 100.60 meters, over the critical level of 100.50 meters.

The water level at La Mesa had reached 79.29 meters, near the critical level of 79.50 meters. — BM, GMA News
