Catholic church officials remind celebrities they are role models amid leaked sex videos

Catholic church officials expressed their concern Wednesday over recently leaked sex videos of local celebrities, as they reminded celebrities of their responsibility as role models.

 

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines officials said these celebrities can easily influence their fans, and such scandals are "disturbing."

 

"With great love and respect, we appeal to our brothers and sisters in the entertainment industry, we look up to you. The youth look up to you," said CBCP Commission on Family and Life executive secretary Fr. Melvin Castro.

 

Castro described the recent incidents as “saddening and disturbing."

 

He pointed out celebrities should be aware of thei status as role models for their audiences because of today’s celebrity-obsessed society. 

 

“In God’s divine plan, marital union, physical intimacy, is so sacred it was created within the institution and sacrament of marriage. It should remain as such, sacred and intimate. Not to be trivialized and much less flaunted in public,” he said.

 

Meanwhile, CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth executive secretary Fr. Conegundo Garganta said the videos are “not giving a good example” especially to the youth. 

 

“Actions like this manifest poor discernment and lack of moral grounding,” Garganta said.

 

Earlier this week, a sex video allegedly of comedian Wally Bayola and EB Babe dancer Yosh went viral on video-sharing sites.

 

Last August, another sex video featuring band singer Chito Miranda and girlfriend Neri Naig was also uploaded to the Internet.  — ELR, GMA News
