'Quedan' exits PHL; PAGASA tracks approaching storm

Typhoon Quedan (Fitow) exited the Philippine area of responsibility Saturday afternoon, even as state weather forecasters are tracking another cyclone approaching the Philippines.

PAGASA, in its 5 p.m. advisory, said Typhoon Quedan is moving toward the southern islands of Japan.

It said that as of 4 p.m., Quedan was estimated at 610 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or at 410 km east of Northern Taiwan.

Quedan packed maximum winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph, and is forecast to move west-northwest at 15 kph.

By Sunday afternoon, it is expected to be 540 km north of Itbayat, Batanes or 130 km northeast of Northern Taiwan.

No storm signals are raised but PAGASA said sea travel is still risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said strong to gale-force winds associated with Quedan may affect the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon.

"Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," it said.

Approaching storm

Meanwhile, a separate report on dzBB radio said a tropical storm, internationally codenamed Danas, may enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Sunday.

The dzBB report said the cyclone, to be codenamed "Ramil" if it enters the Philippine area of responsibility, may enter Sunday evening.

A separate report by GMA Weather Central said the cyclone is not likely to affect any part of the country.

The Japan Meteorological Agency's 3 p.m. update indicated the storm is moving west-northwest and may approach the area northeast of the Philippines. — LBG, GMA News
