PNoy forms task force for Iglesia ni Cristo centennial celebration

President Benigno Aquino III has formed an inter-agency task force for the centennial celebration of Iglesia ni Cristo on July 27, 2014 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

The President, in Memorandum Circular No. 66 issued July 3, formed "Task Force Sentenaryo" to "take charge of government actions and responses... ensure smooth coordination among public and private sectors, maintain peace and order, ensure the safety of participants, and prepare a traffic management plan for the efficient and smooth transport of persons and goods" during the celebration.

Aquino said the task force, to be headed by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chair Francis Tolentino, may call upon any department, bureau, agency or instrumentality of the government, local government units, NGOs, and the private sector for assistance.

"The massive scale of the event is indicative of its great significance to a large number of Filipinos who are members of the INC, and who will be gathering from all over the world to take part in the INC Centennial Celebration," he said.

Before this, the President also issued Proclamation No. 815 on July 2 to declare 2014 as the Iglesia ni Cristo Centennial Year.

He said the proclamation was issued to "enhance public awareness" on the contributions of INC to national development.

The same proclamation likewise directed the Postmaster General to "cause the design, printing and issuance of a special postage stamp" to commemorate the event.

Aquino said INC is the largest homegrown Christian church in the Philippines, with ministries in at least 102 countries. —Kimberly Jane Tan/KG, GMA News
