Only first 3 impeachment complaints vs. PNoy to be considered – Tupas

Only the three impeachment complaints against President Benigno Aquino III filed before he delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address in late July will be considered by the House committee on justice, Rep. Niel Tupas said Tuesday.

Despite petitions from his fellow lawmakers, Tupas said the fourth impeachment complaint filed by Act Teachers Rep. Antonio Tinio and other educators will no longer be entertained by the committee, a tweet from dzBB reporter Rowena Salvacion said.

At the hearing, Tupas, chairperson of the House panel, insisted that all three impeachment complaints -- two of which were filed in reference to the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) -- be looked into, after Deputy House Speaker Sergio Apostol moved to junk the second and third impeachment complaints.

The first impeachment complaint was filed July 21 by anti-pork barrel groups.

The second impeachment complaint was filed last July 22 by youth groups over DAP.

Meanwhile, the third complaint was filed two days later, this time in connection with the Philippine-United States Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

The Justice panel agreed to vote on the complaints' sufficiency in form and substance separately. —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/RSJ, GMA News
