Cayetano on 2016 polls: ‘Hindi ako atat’

Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Friday said he is not in a rush to decide whether to run for president in 2016 even though he is reportedly being considered by his political party.

"Personally, hindi ko nira-rush. Hindi ako atat," he said at a press briefing, days after Senator Antonio Triallanes IV bared that the Nacionalista Party is considering Cayetano as possible standard-bearer in the 2016 polls.

Aside from Cayetano, also being considered by the Nacionalista Party are Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., former Senate President Manny Villar, and Trillanes himself.

Cayetano said the decision on running for president has taken a backseat because of the anti-graft issues and other projects he's handling, such as the Iskolar ng Bayan Act.

He said he will face the issue in 2015. "As we approach the middle of next year, wala kang choice kundi pag-usapan 'yan," he said.

Binay

Cayetano said it was Vice President Jejomar Binay who seemed to be in a rush to win the presidency in 2016. He said the vice president even told the Boy Scouts of the Philippines that his political career will end in Malacañang.

“I'm happy that he is still confident na mananalo pa rin siyang pangulo... Hindi ako surprise dahil si VP Binay naman atat na atat sa presidency," Cayetano said.

But the senator pointed out that Binay's “atat” also has another meaning: “atras-tago.”

“Ang problema naman sa atat niya, double meaning 'yung atat. Atat, the usual meaning na gustung-gusto niya na maging presidente. Kitang-kita n'yo ngayon kasi panay ang kampanya na pero tinatawag nilang trabaho.

“The second meaning of atat is 'atras-tago, atras-tago.' Siya maghahamon, aatras siya tapos tatago. May ilalabas na ebidensya, aatras tapos tatago,” he added.

Cayetano is part of the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee that is investigating corruption allegations against Binay. The Senate hearing on the issue will resume in January. —KBK, GMA News
