PNoy confirms talking politics with Poe but is mum on details

President Benigno Aquino III has admitted he and Sen. Grace Poe met to discuss a possible alliance for the 2016 national elections.

In a report on GMA's “24 Oras” aired Saturday evening, Aquino said he met with Poe before his state visit to Canada.

“We had a discussion recently and we are not at liberty at this point in time to discuss all of the details,” Aquino said

“We broached the idea of continuing the things this administration has been trying to do. Now, in what capacity, hindi pa finalized yun. And that can also include even campaigning,” he continued.

Aquino also said he was open to the possibility of Poe running in tandem with Interior Secretary Mar Roxas who is widely believed to be the next standard-bearer for the Liberal Party.

Poe, who is not a Liberal but ran in the administration ticket in 2013, has recently enjoyed a steady increase in popularity based on recent public surveys.

Meanwhile, Aquino highlighted the role of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in the West Philippine Sea row during his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“ITLOS's decision will clarify the situation and therefore once clarified then everybody that says they are conforming to international law will have to make their acitivites consistent with the findings of the tribunal,” Aquino said.

Aquino is scheduled to be in Vancouver on Sunday to meet with the Filipino community there before heading back to the Philippines. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
