PNoy signs EO 183 creating Negros Island region

President Benigno Aquino III has ordered that the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental be integrated into a single region.

Through Executive Order (EO) 183, signed May 29, Aquino created the “Negros Island Region” to “improve the delivery of public services” in the two provinces.

Negros Occidental currently belongs to the Western Visayas region, and Negros Oriental to the Central Visayas region.

The President also ordered that a Negros Island Region Technical Working Group be established to plan institutional and organizational changes that will take place in the process of integrating the two provinces.

EO 183 also created the Negros Island Development Council, the Negros Island Peace and Order Council, and the Negros Island Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

In expressing support for an integrated island region, Aquino noted it will lead to the development of the provinces
