Rizal Alih, instigator of Camp Cawa-Cawa siege, dies at 70


Rizal Alih, a former police officer who led an armed group that laid siege to Camp Cawa-Cawa in Zamboanga City in 1989, died Friday night inside the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, GMA News stringer Peewee Bacuño reported.

According to initial information from the PNP, Alih died from complications related to age.

Brig. Gen. Eduardo Batalla, Col. Romeo Abendan, and several other hostages were killed during the Camp Cawa-Cawa siege.

Alih had also been detained and questioned over the murder of Zamboanga City Mayor Cesar Climaco in November 14, 1984. — DVM, GMA News
