People calling for Duterte presidential run gather in Rizal Park

A large group of supporters of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte gathered at the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park to convince the local official to run for president in 2016.

People who trooped to the Quirino Grandstand were placards with words "Duterte for President."

Photos from the event were posted by supporters on the Rody Duterte For President Movement International https://www.facebook.com/groups/du302016movement/

The gathering, dubbed as the "Million People March," seeks to convince Duterte to change his mind and run for president in 2016.

Duterte ranked fourth, falling behind former Interior secretary Mar Roxas, in the latest Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations survey.

The mayor has repeatedly said that he will not run for president in 2016.

Last September 7, Duterte announced again that he has no ambition of becoming a president.

"I would like to categorically state now... na di ako tatakbong president," he said. "Wala akong ambisyon mag-presidente."

He also announced that he will retire from politics next year.

"I believe it's no longer my time. I will retire after my term," he added. —ALG, GMA News
