Floods force closure of roads in NCR, 4 regions


Floods and landslides in Luzon forced the closure of several roads in Metro Manila, Ilocos, Cordillera, and Central and Southern Luzon Wednesday. The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) reported Wednesday night that several roads in Cavite province were closed to traffic, while residents under one bridge in the province were evacuated due to waist-high floods. In Metro Manila, the road from A. Bonifacio to Manila via Dimasalang remained impassable to all types of vehicles as of 6 p.m. Wednesday. Rendered impassable to light vehicles were Lacson Street going to Nagtahan; Aurora Blvd. junction cor. Cavite Street, Sta. Cruz; Maceda Street corner España in Sampaloc; Leonor Rivera going to SM San Lazaro; Cavite Street going to Monumento; España cor. Laong Laan and Dapitan-Ma. Clara; Araneta Avenue to Ma. Clara in Quezon City; and Obrero going to Monumento in Malabon. Several streets in Makati City were flooded, but most were passable to all vehicles. In Ilocos, all national road sections region wide were passable but the Cervantes-Suyo Road in Ilocos Sur was not passable due to landslide. The road from Tined village to Santa in Ilocos Sur was also not passable to light vehicles due to flooding. The Department of Public Works and Highways was conducting clearing operations. In Central Luzon, all national roads were passable to vehicles but Alusiis, Beddeng and La Paz villages in San Narciso town in Zambales were not passable to light vehicles. In Cavite, Bacoor ( Niyog, Dulong Bayan and Ligas Uno villages) road was closed to all vehicles. Roads at Kawit (Poblacion, Gahak, Wakas, Tabon, Binacayan villages); Cavite City (Barangay (village) 46 and San Antonio); and Imus (Medition 2D, Alapan and Kalsadang bago) were not passable to light vehicles due to knee-deep floods. In Tanza (Bgys. Julgan 7 and 8), floods were waist-deep and residents under the bridge in the Bacoor-Zapote area were evacuated. In Cordillera, all roads in Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ifugao and Mt. Province were open, but roads in Benguet (Pallna, Tabbak and Sipitan sections) were on close-open status depending on the situation. In Baguio City, Kennon Road, Marcos Highway, Naguilian Road and access roads to Benguet remained open to vehicles. - GMANews.TV
