Young and old alike troop to EDSA for 30th anniversary of People Power revolution

Students who were not born yet when the People Power Revolution occurred in 1986 on Thursday morning joined those who took part in that event 30 years ago.

The People Power Revolution toppled then President Ferdinand Marcos from power and paved the way for Corazon Aquino to be President.

A crowd of students was spotted gathered at one of the "salubungan" points along EDSA where a tank with yellow ribbons was stationed.

The "salubungan" was participated in by officials and personnel of the different branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. One group was to start marching from the MRT station on EDSA-Santolan, and the other from EDSA Shrine. The groups were to meet at the People Power Monument.

A group of nuns was also spotted near the"salubungan" point, ready to participate in the day's activities.

Security was tight at EDSA Shrine, and also at the People Power Monument at the corner of EDSA and White Plains Avenue.

At the People Power Monument, President Benigno Aquino III was joined by former President Fidel V. Ramos and other government officials for the program.

Meanwhile, street sweepers of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) were already stationed under the nearby EDSA-Ortigas Flyover, ready to keep EDSA clean after the commemoration rites.
