Group calls Bongbong comics 'a bizarre figment of imagination'

The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang (CARMMA) on Tuesday slammed the comic booklet depicting the life story of vice presidential aspirant Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

In a statement sent to GMA News Online, CARMMA spokesperson Bonifacio Ilagan called the comics a “bizarre figment of imagination” that glossed over crucial points during the dictatorship of his father, late President Ferdinand Marcos.

“Reading it, one gets the impression that the Marcoses were the victims, and that the people unjustly drove them out of Malacañang and out of the country,” he said.
Ilagan questioned the facts presented in the comic book, "Asikasong Bongbong Tuloy Tuloy!"

“The crisis that led to EDSA 1986 was simply described as ‘Nagbago ang ihip ng hangin sa palasyo.‘ Truth is, the people have had enough of the greed and the impunity that were the hallmarks of Martial law,” he said.

“The comics depicts that the Marcoses were held at gunpoint, and that their escape from the wrath of the people was totally against their will. Truth is, they were mercifully given a second chance at life. They were so happy to have fled from the people’s uprising. In fact, they were even able to take with them at least 300 boxes of their ill-gotten wealth and incriminating documents,” Ilagan added.

He also hit the younger Marcos for depicting himself as a superhero in a “self-styled mission to 'save the Philippines' and take the country back to the 'golden years' that was his father's one-man rule.”

“Marcos Jr. insults the intelligence of his target readers, who are the masa and the millenials. No wonder the comics has backfired and now he says he has withdrawn it from circulation. But then again, it could be another Bongbong Marcos lie,” he said. — Trisha Macas/BAP, GMA News
