Disabled friends are new subject of Duterte’s jokes in Aklan sortie

After he was largely criticized for his controversial “joke” on the rape of an Australian missionary, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte still managed to crack some jokes and make the crowd laugh during his campaign rallies.

During his sortie in Kalibo, Aklan on Wednesday night, the subject of Duterte’s jokes were his disabled friends, as reported by Cedric Castillo on GMA-7’s “Saksi” on Thursday.

“Iyong isa doon, classmate ko pa. Eh na-stroke, paganoon-ganoon (mimics). Gusto ko sabihin, ‘Pakamatay ka na lang’,” he said.

He also had another story about an old man who still manage to look at women despite his condition.

“Iyong isa doon, 87 o 88, pagdating niya siguro maingay na, gaganon siya pilit (tries to lift head up), siguro may spinal (problem). Tinutulak pa, ganoon (lifts head). Tapos, tumatakbo iyong mga babae, tinutulak iyong mukha. Tapos ibalik ng yaya (pababa),” he said as the crowd laughed.

The statements are against the Republic Act No. 9442 or the act amending the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, the National Council on Disability Affairs pointed out.

In the same rally, Duterte told the cheering crowd: “Accept me for what I am.” — Trisha Macas, BAP, GMA News
