Special power of attorney presented by Duterte's lawyer at BPI

Instead of personally appearing at the Bank of the Philippine Islands' Julia Vargas branch in Pasig City, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte sent his lawyer, Salvador Panelo, with a special power of attorney.

Through the document, Duterte authorized Panelo to "request and receive" from the BPI branch bank certificates showing the account balances of his bank account.

The mayor also wanted the bank to include in the certificate that the amount of P211 million had not been deposited to the account.

Trillanes, who came to the bank to meet Panelo, also brought a legal document, an affidavit, where he revealed how he obtained the information about Duterte's supposed millions.

The affidavit was a requirement cited by Duterte before he agrees to make details of his bank account public.

After leaving the bank, the senator called Duterte a coward for not issuing a bank secrecy waiver.

Trillanes said he also wanted Duterte's camp to produce the transaction history of his accounts, instead of a copy of the account balances. —ALG, GMA News
