Poe, Robredo grateful to supporters of tandem, but affirm loyalty to running mates

Senator Grace Poe and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo both expressed gratitude to supporters pushing for their tandem, but affirmed that they are remaining faithful to their respective running mates.

A full-page paid advertisement in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Thursday pushed for voters to go for the duo, who are running under different slates for the top two positions in the land. Poe is running as an independent with Senator Chiz Escudero, while Robredo is part of the Liberal Party slate with former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.

The ad was sponsored by a group calling itself the #GraceLeni Pusong Lumalaban Movement and was signed by 42 individuals composed of professors, students, youth leaders, and entrepreneurs.

Political figures who signed the ad include former Senators Leticia Ramos-Shahani and Santanina Tillah Rasul, as well as Leon Flores III, the former Chairman of the National Youth Commission.

With the tagline "Puso natin, laban natin," the group pushed for the presidency of Poe and the vice presidency of Robredo, whom they said are both untouched by corruption and anomalies.

Sought for comment, Poe said it is natural for some women to support candidates of the same sex.

The senator, however, reiterated her support for the candidacy of Escudero.

Robredo, in a statement posted on her Facebook page, expressed her gratitude to the people supporting her candidacy.

However, she likewise stressed that her loyalty was with Roxas.

—Jessica Bartolome with Xianne Arcangel/JST, GMA News
