Duterte-Misuari meeting to be set

A meeting between President Rodrigo Duterte and Moro National Liberation Front founding chairman Nur Misuari is being set, a report on Unang Balita on Monday said.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said no date has been set yet for the meeting.

However, he gave the assurance that the meeting will take place.

Misuari is wanted by authorities for his role in staging the Zamboanga City siege in 2013.

Aside from meeting the MNLF leader, Duterte will also talk to the leaders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the National Democratic Front, the report said.

Duterte has earlier said the situation in Mindanao will change before his term ends.

He said he will give attention to projects in Mindanao, particularly in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

On Saturday, Malacañang gave the assurance that Mindanao will transform from a "land of promise" into a "land of fulfillment."

Duterte, a Mindanaoan, said during Friday's Hariraya Eid'l Fit'r gathering in Davao City that he is already in consultation with Muslim leaders in crafting a framework that would bring peace to the island hobbled by decades-old insurgency. —KG, GMA News
