DOTr extends validity period of driver's license in NCR to 5 yrs.

Starting next October, a driver's license issued in the National Capital Region (NCR) will have a longer validity period of five years from the present three years, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Tuesday.

In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 25, President Rodrigo Duterte said he wanted to have the validity period of driver's licenses extend to five years.

Senator Ralph Recto filed a bill, also in July, extending the validity period driver's licenses to five years. He cited the need to eliminate red tape from the processing of government documents.

"This is a commonsensical anti-red tape measure which should have been done a long time ago," Recto said. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
