In resignation letter to Duterte, FVR affirms full support for PHL’s interests

In his resignation letter to President Rodrigo Duterte as special envoy to China, former President Fidel Ramos still affirmed his full support for the Philippines' interests.

"This letter is my resignation as your special envoy to China. But more important, it is also an affirmation of my full support of the national interests of our Team Philippines of 100.5 million Filipinos that you now lead," the letter said as read by presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella at a press briefing in Malacañang on Wednesday.

"Given that your State Visit to the PROC [People's Republic of China] was officially wide-ranging, which has resulted in renewed bilateral relations between our two countries, kindly allow me to step down as the special envoy of the President to the People’s Republic of China.

"We’d like to believe that the efforts of our team, of the special envoy, played a modest but productive role in the breaking of the ice that led to your successful visit," Ramos further wrote.

In a media interview while visiting his parents' graves in Roman Catholic Cemetery, Duterte confirmed that he had received Ramos' resignation letter and thanked the former president for his services.

For Abella, the resignation letter showed the kind of relationship between Duterte and Ramos.

"Based on the statement, the President and former President FVR continue to have a solid and respectful relationship as we course a new phase in our evolution as a nation and Filipino society," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
