Duterte jokes: I checked out Robredo's legs at meeting

Known for his penchant for jokes during speeches, President Rodrigo Duterte drew laughs on Tuesday when he spoke about ogling Vice President Leni Robredo during their meetings.

In a speech made during the third anniversary commemoration of the super Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban City, Duterte said that he would usually tease Robredo when conversations among Cabinet officials get boring or intense, just to break the ice.

"Si Ma’am Leni binibiro ko 'yan, kung hindi — you know, when the talks get boring and the argument starts I always enter a joke para, to make it more — pero tatawa talaga," he said.

Earlier in the speech, Duterte asked Robredo about her lovelife.

Duterte then spoke about how, during their first Cabinet meeting, he was seated next to Robredo.

"Noong una sa meeting, they arranged na magkatabi kami. Sabihin ko kaya Ma’am o? Hindi ka mag-ano?" Duterte started before asking for Robredo's permission to share the anecdote.

Robredo smiled, partly covered her face, and shook her head.

"Kasi si Ma’am Leni, medyo shorter than usual ‘yung damit na ano ganun. Siguro nahalata ng mga protocol officer kasi sige ako sa likod. Si [Finance Secretary] Sonny Dominguez naman, sabi ko, 'Ang layo mo, dito tayo. 'Lika.' Sabi ko, 'Tingnan mo 'yung...tuhod ni... noong nahalata niya [Robredo] sige na siya..." Duterte said and seemed to imitate Robredo pulling down her skirt.

"Gusto ko sabihin, 'Ma’am mag-shorts ka na lang kaya?'" Duterte said as the crowd laughed.

"Bakit paiksi-iksi ka ng damit tapos... So ang ginawa ng gaging inulit niya hindi 'yung paganoon so dito makikita mo man, binaliktad niya. Tapos nakaharap na doon. O wala nang view. So noong next, mga after three Cabinet meetings, doon na siya sa harap ko," Duterte said.

He then sang the first line from "Kaibigan" by Anthony Castelo: "Malayo ang tingin..." —JST, GMA News
