Move on, Leni Robredo camp tells Bongbong Marcos

Former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos should "accept the facts" after the dismissal of its case over the script change in the server used in the May polls, the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo said on Thursday.

In a statement, lawyer Bernadette Sardillo, part of Robredo's legal team, noted that the dismissal means that Marcos' camp "failed to establish their case."

"While the right to litigate is accorded to any person, fair play demands that we guard against false or baseless charges," Sardillo said.

"If their evidence is lacking, it should be declared to be so and no amount of appeal can change that," she added.

"There are times when we just need to accept the facts and the truth no matter how painful it might be," Sardillo also said.

The Vice President's camp issued the comment after Marcos' camp asked the Department of Justice to review the decision of the Manila Prosecutor's Office, which said the change in the script of the server during the May polls "could hardly be called criminal" nor reckless.

The cybercrime charges—dismissed for insufficiency of evidence and lack of merit—were filed by Marcos' campaign adviser, Abakada Partylist Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz, against two executives and a personnel of technology provider Smartmatic, as well as several employees of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The defeated vice presidential candidate, who lost to Robredo by 263,473 votes, also lodged an electoral protest against her before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), a body composed of magistrates of the Supreme Court. — VVP, GMA News
