Leni to Bongbong Marcos’ camp: Sinong may history ng pagnanakaw?

Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday shot back at the camp of her rival, former Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., after it accused of stealing the vice presidency.

Robredo said she didn't have a history of stealing.

"Parang between the two of us, ewan ko... kung sino 'yung mas may history ng pagnanakaw? Hindi yata ako," she said in  an interview in Compostela Valley.

It was her first provincial trip since formally resigning from the Cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The Marcoses have been alleged to have benefitted from ill-gotten wealth amassed during the administration of the family's patriarch, the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Robredo, who was the chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, resigned over the weekend from the Duterte Cabinet after she was told to desist from attending its meetings.

She also adverted to an alleged plot to take away the vice presidency from her.

In a statement, Marcos' camp turned the tables on Robredo, accusing her and the Liberal Party of stealing the vice presidency from the former senator, who lost in the May election by just 263,473 votes.

Marcos has already turned to the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, to unseat Robredo.

"It was they who thwarted the will of the Filipino people by depriving them of their real choice for the vice presidency," said Marcos' spokesman Vic Rodriguez.

"Her statement on the vice presidency is yet another affront to the Supreme Court as she is undermining the integrity and independence of Presidential Electoral Tribunal by casting doubt this early on, on all its future actions and processes," he added.

In his election protest, Marcos said Robredo had benefited from "massive electoral fraud, anomalies and irregularities." —NB, GMA News
