Duterte 'won't lift a finger' to help Pinoys deported by Trump

President Rodrigo Duterte said he "will not lift a finger" to help undocumented Filipinos in the United States who will end up being deported under the policies of new American president Donald Trump.

Duterte made this pronouncement in a news conference early Monday, saying he is doing so out of respect for Trump.

"Trump said I will not interfere in the affairs," Duterte said, adding that he would reciprocate since the American president had professed support for his drug campaign.

On Trump's immigration policies, Duterte said: "I will understand."

"Out of respect for his statement, I can only answer in the manner he has told me. Hindi ako makialam," Duterte said.

"If you are not allowed to stay there, get out. If you get caught there and deported, I will not lift a finger," he added.

Trump ran and won on a campaign promising to rid the US of illegal immigrants. This past weekend, Trump ordered a ban on the entry of all people from seven predominantly Muslim countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. However, a US federal court has halted implementation of the order. --JST, GMA News
