FOR ALVAREZ ENDORSEMENT

Marcos loyalists prepare impeachment rap vs. Leni Robredo

Two former senatorial aspirants and supporters of the late President Ferdinand Marcos are asking House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez to endorse an impeachment complaint they have prepared against Vice President Leni Robredo.

Lawyer Oliver Lozano and Melchor Chavez, who both have previously run under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan banner associated with late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, wish to have Robredo impeached for culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, based on her recorded speech for a side session during the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs annual meeting.

They said the Vice President “doesn’t present any iota of evidence for her claims, not even a single instance of the human rights violations she alleges.”

They added that she “made it appear that the rule of law in our country has so totally broken down that victims of human rights violations are given no recourse.”

Lozano and Chavez deemed this as “acts of dishonesty and moral bankrupt(c)y.”

“The public trust is that the respondent should to be true (sic) to her oath and preserve the faith of the people,” the complaint read. “But she betrayed the people by shaming the nation with her dishonest message to the United Nation (sic).”

The complaint comes days after Alvarez announced that he was eyeing to file his own against Robredo, also over the same video.

The Speaker, an ally of President Rodrigo Duterte, made the pronouncement as he linked the Vice President not only to the impeachment rap filed against the President, but to destabilization of the administration as a whole.

Sought for comment on Lozano and Chavez’ proposed complaint, Alvarez told reporters: “I have not seen the complaint.” —JST, GMA News
