Duterte tells soldiers: Better kill yourself than fall into enemies’ hands

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday told soldiers of the Western Command in Palawan to use their last bullet for themselves in case they would get captured by the state’s enemies.

Duterte gave his advise after announcing the initial delivery of 30,000 Glock firearms for the soldiers.

“Huwag kayong mag-surrender nang buhay. Masama man sabihin pero ‘yan ang totoo. Mag-surrender ka, bababuyin ka lang, gawain kang tarantado or gawin kang... You’ll be treated like a pig only to be executed just like the Marine before. Kaya ‘yang last magazine, para [sa] iyo ‘yan,” he said.

Duterte even told the soldiers to have their last bullet blessed by a priest.

“Iyan ang pabenditahan mo sa pari, itong magazine na ito. Kasi pagka nagkaubusan na ng tropa pati bala, ilagay mo na lang ‘yan sa ulo, tapos ganunin mo ‘yung kalaban mo: F— you. Ganoon eh. Ganoonin ka rin eh... Eh you might as well die with dignity or talagang harapin mo ‘yung M16. Eh lahat naman tayo mamamatay,” he added.

The President also reminded the soldiers that death would eventually catch up with everyone.

“Hindi naman lahat pero you follow a destiny here. Iyan ang hindi natin mapigil. ‘Pag panahon mo na, panahon mo na. Panahon ko na, panahon ko na,” he said.

“So ‘yung ibili ko para sa inyo, hopefully will bolster your sense of security and vigilance. Ibigay ko sa inyo ‘yan. Libre. Libre,” he added, referring to the new firearms he acquired for the military. — MDM, GMA News
