Duterte shares table with Arroyos, Marcoses, Binay, Enrile at Erap’s 80th birthday bash

President Rodrigo Duterte was one of the powerful figures who graced the 80th birthday celebration of former President and incumbent Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada.

Other attendees who celebrated with Estrada were former President and incumbent Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her husband Mike Arroyo, former First Lady and incumbent Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos and her son former Senator Bongbong Marcos, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, and former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

All of them shared a table with Duterte and the celebrator Estrada and his wife Loi Ejercito.

The party was held at the Manila Hotel on Wednesday night.

Malacañang photos showed that Duterte was welcomed by Estrada’s son, former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, who was allowed by the Sandiganbayan to attend the party. Jinggoy is detained at the PNP Custodial Center over plunder and graft charges in connection with his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.

Senator Manny Pacquiao was also at the event.

Duterte gave a birthday message to Estrada, sharing "insights" on their similar experiences.

Before heading to the event, the President joked that he would send the convicted plunderer and godfather to his grandson Marko Digong back to jail.

Estrada was convicted of plunder for his involvement in the illegal numbers game jueteng. He was, however, pardoned by then-President Arroyo. — RSJ, GMA News
