Taguiwalo child wants Tito Sotto to apologize to her mom

A daughter of Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo wants Senator Vicente Sotto III to apologize to her mother.

Sotto, during Taguiwalo's confirmation hearing, joked about Taguiwalo having two daughters when her information sheet showed that she was single.

"I'm asking Tito Sotto to apologize to mama... No woman should be treated like that," one of Taguiwalo daughters said in a message to GMA News Online.

The daughter earlier posted a strongly-worded post on Facebook as regards the exchange between the senator and the secretary.

Taguiwalo herself gave Sotto a mild rebuff during the confirmation hearing.

"Senator Sotto, I teach women's studies in UP so we respect all kinds of families, and that includes solo parents. Thank you," Taguiwalo said.

Sotto, the Senate Majority Leader, has already apologized but not after drawing criticisms from such groups as the womenfor making a controversial remark about Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo’s status as a single mom, saying his critics apparently did not get the joke.

"Ang premise ko, sabi ko nga, in the street language, 'di ba? Yun ang biruan sa kalsada. That’s why kung minasama nila, I'm sorry, I apologize. They don’t understand the joke," Sotto said.

"It's a common expression as a joke but then again, I said, if they feel offended then I'm sorry, I’d like to apologize for that," he said. —NB, GMA News
