Arroyo to host lunch for Tonga PM

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will host lunch in Malacañang on Wednesday for visiting Tongan Prime Minister Feleti Vaka'uta Sevele. A Palace statement Tuesday night said Sevele is participating in the Asian Development Bank's "Mobilizing Aid for Trade" conference from September 18 to 20. During his stay in the Philippines, Sevele will also meet with officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Sevele entered politics in 1999 when he was elected as one of the nine People's Representatives to the Legislative Assembly or Fale Alea. He was reelected in 2002 and in 2005. He was later appointed as minister for labor, commerce and industries, where he negotiated Tonga's membership in the World Trade Organization in December 2005. Sevele was appointed to his present position on Feb. 11, 2006. He holds the distinction of being the first non-noble prime minister of Tonga. - GMANews.TV
