A Japanese has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

The NBI identified the suspect as Takahiro Yano, who was arrested at a hotel in Manila on May 13 on the strength of a search warrant issued by the Manila Regional Trial Court.

According to the NBI, it had received an intelligence report that Yano was involved in illegal drugs.

Seized from the 60-year-old suspect were 10 plastic sachets of suspected shabu, other  drug paraphernalia, passports of several women, and sex toys.

Yano is now facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act 9165) before the Manila Prosecutor's Office.

The NBI said Yano was also allegedly involved in the recruitment of Filipina brides for Japanese men.

The women, however, ended up working at a bar Yano owned in Japan. —NB, GMA News
