Bato dela Rosa confronts Rizal cop allegedly involved in drug trade

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Wednesday went to a police station in Teresa, Rizal to confront the arrested cop allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

"Despite sa ating mga warnings, na paulit-ulit na lang... para tayong sirang plaka, nagco-commit pa rin sila ng gano'ng problema. So ibig sabihin napakalalim ng problema natin sa shabu," said dela Rosa said in a report on QRT.

"Apela ko lang sa kanila makipagbarilan sila sa pulis na manghuli sa inyo para matapos natin 'tong problema na 'to," he added.

Dela Rosa also slammed more than 50 cops in Teresa following the arrest of Police Officer 1 Fernan Manimbo.

Manimbo, who was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit, was arrested after cops received a tip that he was about to drop off shabu at  Brgy. Bagumbayan in Teresa.

According to P/Sr. Supt. Albert Ocon, director of the Rizal provincial police office (PPO), the suspect was caught in the act of delivering 20 sachets containing 100 grams of shabu worth P200,000.

Manimbo already underwent inquest proceedings and the PNP Internal Affairs Service will also start the process of removing him from his post.

Meanwhile, Ocon said Insp. Richard Ganalon, the chief of Teresa police, was already removed from his post for command responsibility.

Ocon also said he would recommend drug testing in all the police stations in Rizal province.

"'Yun pong drug test ginagawa po natin 'yan, not only sa isang station. Dapat isagawa natin 'yan sa buong Rizal PPO. Isa 'yun po sa ire-rekomenda ko na isasagawa natin," Ocon said.

Ocon urged members of the police force to report any of their colleagues who they suspect to be involved in the illegal drug trade.

"Despite ng ating mga bilin sa kanila... binibigyan natin sila ng instructions na tungkol dito sa campaign against illegal drugs. Despite that, meron pa ring mga kapulisan na itinatago 'yung illegal activities concerning this drug problem," Ocon said.

"Sila po ay wina-warningan natin na magbalik sila sa loob ng gobyerno at isiwalat nila 'yung kabaro natin na ganito pa rin po ang tuluy-tuloy na ginawa," he added. — Anna Felicia Bajo/MDM, GMA News
