Duterte to Trump: This generation’s mad man is Kim Jong Un

President Rodrigo Duterte told United States President Donald Trump that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is this generation’s mad man.

“Every generation has a mad man – in our generation is Kim Jong Un – you are dealing with a very delicate problem,” Duterte said, according to a leaked transcript of the two leaders' phone conversation as posted on The Washington Post.

Trump replied that the US could handle it, but also pointed out the China could solve the problem.

Duterte then said he would try to call Chinese President Xi Jinping through Ambassador Zhao Jianhua.

"You can tell him I am counting on him. I have a very good relationship with him," Trump said.

The US President also agreed with Duterte that Kim was a madman with nuclear weapons.

The Washington Post said that a senior official of the Trump administration confirmed the authenticity of the transcript it acquired from the Philippine government.

But the Philippine government is yet to comment on it. — RSJ, GMA News
