Palace denies ‘proclamation’ declaring May 26 a holiday

Malacañang on Wednesday denied that it released a proclamation declaring May 26 as a non-working day supposedly on occasion of the Muslim observance of Ramadan.

"The Proclamation 197 circulating through social media declaring May 26, 2017 (Friday) as special (non-working) day in Metro Manila in observance of the 1st Tarawih of Ramadan (Sighting of Ramadan Moon) is spurious. We therefore ask netizens to refrain from posting such information," the Office of the Executive Secretary said in a statement sent to reporters.

It clarified that Proclamation No. 197 was the declaration of April 28, 2017 (Friday) as a special (non-working) day in Metro Manila for the 30th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit 2017 that the Philippines hosted.

The document that  shared on his Facebook page was supposedly signed by Medialdea on May 23.

But Medialdea joined President Rodrigo Duterte in his official visit in Russia. They left Davao City on May 22. —NB, GMA News
