PNP chief: Maute group protects narco-politicians and vice versa

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said Monday that local terror group Maute is protecting drug lords and politicians involved in illegal drug trade and vice versa.

“Mutual, the feeling is  mutual between the two of them (narco-politicians and Maute group). They protect each other and they support each other,” Dela Rosa said at a press conference.

He said they have received information even before July 1 that most of the drug lords in Metro Manila, Luzon, and Visayas  went to Marawi to meet with the Maute group.

“Even before July 1, pag-assume natin at in-announce ang pagsurrender ng drug lords, we received information na karamihan ng drug lords sa Metro Manila, Luzon, at Visayas ay pumunta sa Marawi at nagkaroon sila ng drug summit and they were protected by the Maute group and narcopoliticians,” he said.

“Nagmeeting sila doon, meron tayong information na ganun,” he added.

He said the Maute group and the narcopoliticians are subject of their operations.

Dela Rosa said that Maute is now recognized by ISIS but they are not sure yet how the international terror group gives its support.

“‘Yung ISIS e hindi pa talaga natin na-establish kung anong suporta,” he said. — RSJ, GMA News
