Robredo: Duterte’s rape joke amid martial law unfair to soldiers too

President Rodrigo Duterte's rape joke before soldiers in Mindanao is also a disservice to members of the military implementing martial law, Vice President Leni Robredo has said.

According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras" on Monday, Robredo supports Duterte's declaration of martial law in Mindanao following the attacks in Marawi City of the ISIS-linked Maute group.

"Hindi tama na parang ginagawa siyang biro," Robredo said in Iligan City when asked about Duterte's joke before the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade on Friday.

Robredo visited evacuation centers in Iligan City, the wake of soldiers killed in the clashes with the Maute group in Marawi City, hospitals, and relief operation volunteers.

Duterte on Friday assured the soldiers that they had his full support.

“If you go down, I go down. But for this martial law and the consequences of martial law and the ramifications of martial law, I and I alone would be responsible.

Duterte then remarked in jest that he could even go to jail for the soldiers if they committed rape.

—NB, GMA News
