Andanar abolishes PCOO's Strategic Communications Office

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar has ordered the abolition of a unit under his office.

In an order signed on May 30, Andanar abolished the Strategic Communications Office (SCO), formerly Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office under the Presidential Communications Operations Office.

The order did not specify a particular reason for the SCO's abolition.

In his order, Andanar said: "In the interest of the service, the Strategic Communications Office shall be abolished effective immediately."

Twenty of SCO's employees were transferred to two other units under the PCOO, while the remaining employees were "deemed resigned and/or the contract of their service expired."

In a text message to GMA News Online, Andanar explained that dissolving SCO unit was part of a new strategy of the PCOO.

“The main reasons are to streamline and to adjust to our new comprehensive communications strategy in promoting the policies of the different executive departments,” he said.

“The recent communications programs led by PCOO; DuterteNOMiCs, Real Numbers, Extremism & Martial Law and other upcoming events, increased the demand for the PCOO Team to assist other departments. Thus the need to restructure our manpower assignments,” he added.

He also belied that 40 people were fired because of the order.

“The news that 40 people were fired is very inaccurate. I did not fire anyone,” Andanar said. —Trisha Macas/ALG, GMA News
