PNP to take advantage of martial law to stop narco-politics – Bato dela Rosa

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said they will take advantage of the prevailing martial law in Mindanao to address the problem on narco-politics, including illegal drugs and loose firearms, in the region.

“Samantalahin natin itong martial law para hindi lang terorista kundi pati yung problema sa droga at loose firearms dito sa Marawi. Alam natin na napakaraming baril itong lugar na ito so kasama na diyan ‘yung droga at loose firearms,” Dela Rosa said in a radio interview late Tuesday afternoon.

He assured the public that they will abide by the laws in arresting suspected narco-politicians.

“‘Yung pag-aresto, we have to still follow rules of court, kailangan mayroon rin tayong ebidensya at magpo-prosper ‘yung kaso sa korte. So hindi lang yan porke meron tayong intelligence report na itong si mayor ganito or ex-mayor ganito ay nagsusuporta sa Maute pipickupin na natin at ikulong,” he said.

“Hindi porke (suspected narcopolitician) hulihin na lang natin na wala tayong makuhang ebidensya , e di wala rin tayong mai-file na kaso. We are only given three days to file the case, hindi ba,” he said.

He said the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines are committed to clear Marawi City of undesirable personalities.

Dela Rosa earlier said narco-politicians are supporting and protecting Maute in exchange for the support and protection of the latter

“Mutual, the feeling is  mutual between the two of them (narco-politicians and Maute group). They protect each other and they support each other,” he said on Monday.

He said that they have received information even before July 1 that most of the drug lords in Metro Manila, Luzon, and Visayas  went to Marawi to meet with the Maute group.

“Even before July 1, pag-assume natin at in-announce ang pagsurrender ng drug lords, we received information na karamihan ng drug lords sa Metro Manila, Luzon, at Visayas ay pumunta sa Marawi at nagkaroon sila ng drug summit and they were protected by the Maute group and narcopoliticians,” he said.

“Nag-meeting sila doon, meron tayong information na ganun,” he added. — RSJ, GMA News
