More than 1M drug personalities surrendered since July 2016 —PDEA 


More than one million drug personalities have already surrendered to authorities, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Friday.

"We have a total number of drug surrenderers at 1,304,795," PDEA director general Isidro Lapeña said in a press briefing.

Lapeña said the data was from the anti-narcotics campaign period from July 1, 2016 to June 6, 2017.

He also took note that there were 61,592 operations conducted and a total of 82,607 drug personalities were nabbed.

Lapeña emphasized that government employees were included in the number of arrested drug personalities.

"Two hundred eighty government workers were arrested during the anti-drug operations, broken down into the following: government employees, 138; elected officials, 119; uniformed personnel, 23," Lapeña said.

Meanwhile, out of these anti-illegal drugs operations, 3,116 died.

The PDEA chief also pointed out that a total of 2,340.74 kilos of shabu were seized, noting that the amount has a street value of P12.10 billion. —KG, GMA News
