Mother who recently had miscarriage loses husband to Marawi conflict

A mother who recently suffered a miscarriage did not only lose her child, she also lost her husband due to the ongoing conflict in Marawi City.

The wife of Army Corporal Reymund Paracuelles, 30, could not face GMA News for an interview because of too much grief.

Paracuelles, a grope master and trained demolitionist, died during a breaching operation in the city last June 6.

Paracuelles' team was responsible for bringing down obstacles to provide paths for the ground troops to advance to critical positions in fighting hundreds of Maute group members in the besieged city.

Paracuelles' family said his wife was six-month pregnant when she had a miscarriage last March.

Aside from losing her unborn child and her husband, the mother is also taking care of a one-year old child who is suffering from a heart and kidney disease.

The slain soldier's father, Cesar, said he wished that the military would be able to wipe out all members of the Maute group in the city.

"Napakasalbahe ng mga tao na 'yan. Sana maubos na silang lahat," he said at the wake of his son in Taguig City.

The family is planning to have the remains of the unborn baby and Paracuelles' cremated.

The ashes will be placed in the same urn and buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on June 17.

Paracuelles and 57 other soldiers have been killed in the ongoing conflict in Marawi, which started when the Maute group attack the city on May 23.

The attack prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in Mindanao.

Twenty-one civilians have also been killed by the Maute group, which has lost 138 members, according to the military. —ALG, GMA News
