BEFORE TERM ENDS

Duterte eyes P50-billion fund for soldiers’ children

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday vowed that before his term ends in 2022, he would have set up a P50-billion fund dedicated to the education of children of government servicemen.

Duterte made this remark during his visit to the 4th Infantry Division Advance Command post in Bancasi, Butuan City, after his week-long break from the public eye.

"Sabi ko nga noon sa inyo, I will try to see that mga anak ninyo... buhay o patay, there will be money to support all your children to school. Ngayon ang sinabi ko, looking for that billion, meron na akong na-target na P20 billion, pagka-alis ko sa gobyerno na 'to, if I can have P50 billion, trust fund... bangko ang magpatakbo," Duterte said.

"That could suffice all your children, 'wag lang galawin, 'wag lang bastusin. That would be enough to sustain the education of your children. I promise you, I will have that P50 billion before I step down as President," he added.

Duterte also reiterated his support for all Filipino soldiers.

"Ang masabi ko lang sa inyo, kasama ninyo ako sa lahat ng bagay. Lahat ng kailangan ninyo, may priority kayo sa gobyerno ngayon," he said.

"I love you all. Mahal ko kayong lahat, nasasaktan ako kapag may nadisgrasya. But, ang konsuelo ninyo, hindi kayo madehado sa armas at sa lahat lalo na sa pangangailanga ninyo," Duterte said in his speech.

Duterte said he may be foul-mouthed, but he has a soft spot for members of the Philippine military.

"Ang isip ko nasa inyo lang din. I talk from the heart. Bastos ang bunganga ko but when I say that, it's with all sincerity," he added.

The commander-in-chief also said one of his administration's programs will be dedicated to the families of soldiers.

"Alam ko ang nasa ulo ninyo, always ang pamilya ninyo. Kaya diyan ko umpisahan 'yung mga programa ko para sa pamilya ninyo. 'Yung small-scale industries, small business, gusto ko sumali lahat ng asawa ng sundalo. Bigyan ka ng pera but you have to attend a seminar,"  he said. — MDM, GMA News
