Abandoned pets seen roaming the streets of Marawi

It's not only residents who were affected by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City. Many pets have been abandoned by their humans who evacuated to nearby towns.

According to a report by Raffy Tima on Balitanghali on Monday, these abandoned pets now roam the streets of Marawi in search of food.

Among the animals roaming the streets are cats, dogs, and doves.

In Barangay Pandi, dogs pounced on a kitten, probably out of hunger. The dogs left the cat alone only after the GMA News crew shooed them away.

The kitten, however, later died from the wounds it sustained in the incident.

Soldiers and members of media share what food they can spare with the abandoned animals.

One kitten a GMA News team took under its wing refused to leave their side and slept among the reporters' gadgets.

Many netizens expressed willingness to help the abandoned pets. However, with the conflict between government troopers and the ISIS-linked Maute group still in progress since May 23, coming to their aid can prove to be a challenge. —KG/KVD, GMA News
