Military brings down Maute drones

Government troops have been able to bring down some of the drones used by Maute group members to monitor the activities of the military.

In a report by Jun Veneracion on "24 Oras" on Tuesday, Joint Task Force Marawi spokesperson Lt. Col. Jo-Ar Herrera said, "Meron tayong mga na-take down, na-take down na mga ginamit nilang mga drones."

Herrera, however, declined to answer if the local terrorists had in turn been able to bring down any of the drones used by the soldiers.

"Ito kasi part na ito ng operational details. I will answer that [in the] right time," he said.

Earlier reports said the military first saw the terrorists' drones during the first week of clashes in the city.

The report took note that the soldiers were successful in targeting the "strategic positions" of the local terrorists, including the 16 buildings in the capitol of Marawi.

However, it added that the provincial capitol was still being hit by stray bullets.

"'Yung capitol considered nasa line of sight siya ng enemy. So pag nagkaroon po ng exchange of firefight, ang tendency talaga is magkaroon ng possibility na dumaan po ang bala within the vicinity of capitol," said Herrera. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
