JBC looking for candidates to succeed Sandiganbayan Justice Ponferrada

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is looking for candidates to fill the position to be vacated by Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Rodolfo Ponferrada this September.

Applications or recommendations as well as documentary requirements must be received by the JBC, which holds office at the Supreme Court in Manila, on or before July 17, according to the announcement posted by the screening body on its website.

The JBC also subjects the applicants to psychological examination and public interview to help the body decide on who should be included in the shortlist of nominees to be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte.

A member of the anti-graft court since August 2004, Ponferrada is the chairman of the Sandiganbayan's Sixth Division.

He used to be part of the court's first division, which is hearing the plunder and graft cases against former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. in connection with the pork barrel scam.

Ponferrada will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 on September 13. —ALG/KVD, GMA News
