Duterte shows his gun to warn those trying to ‘destroy’ PHL

Amid reported abuses by government forces in strife-torn areas in Mindanao as well as the Bulacan massacre, President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday showed his gun to threaten all of those trying to "destroy" the Philippines.

The President issued the warning in light of alleged rights violations committed by members of the military and the police in Lanao del Sur and in Marawi City, the center of clashes between the government troops and the Maute group.

"Sa lahat, military, civilian, police, religious [groups]... do not destroy our country, do not deprive us of our young children," said Duterte during his speech at the 50th founding anniversary of Davao del Norte.

"Do not destroy my country because I will really kill you," he added, as he walked to the side of the podium and lifted his shirt to show to the crowd his gun tucked in his waistband.

Duterte assured the public that the government would look into all cases involving reported abuses by military and police forces.

"Kung sabihin mo lang na abuso sa pulis at military, we in the government and the military and the police can handle it," he said.

Duterte also issued the warning as he expressed anger over the family massacred in Bulacan by an alleged drug user, and stressed that "shabu is a deadly game."

Duterte called suspect, Carmelino "Miling" Navarro Ibañez, a "son of a whore" for allegedly stabbing to death a grandmother, her daughter, and three granddaughters inside their residence.

Ibañez had earlier confessed to the crime, saying he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he committed the slays. A drug test on him, however, yielded negative results. — MDM, GMA News
