Trillanes: Duterte admin won't last six years

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV believes President Rodrigo Duterte will not be able to finish his six-year term until 2022, saying he will either be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) or get impeached by Congress.

Trillanes said this in a press conference Monday, as he continued to criticize Duterte’s leadership and his administration’s supposed lack of vision.

“Kung sa street lingo, eh sa kangkungan talaga tayo pupulutin at the rate we are going, kasi wala talaga kaming direksyon na nakikita,” Trillanes said.

“Wala namang vision na sinet, which is the first thing na ginagawa ng isang leader na, ‘Ito gagawin natin, at ito ang paraan para makarating tayo diyan.’ Wala siyang ganung. Mura-mura lang dito, nagpapatawa, tapos alis na,” he said.

He said the Duterte administration has so far failed to deliver on its promise to rid the country of crime, corruption, and illegal drugs, and has yet to address concerns of Filipinos such as heavy traffic in Metro Manila, smuggling, and peace and order.

Trillanes, a staunch critic of the President, said Duterte has only maintained his popularity despite his failure to fulfill his campaign promises because of “social media propaganda.”

Once his popularity wanes, however, Trillanes said Duterte’s allies in Congress will be the first to stab him in the back.

“Palagay ko, hindi niya [matatapos ang termino] dahil nakaumang ang ICC case. Mabigat ito dahil hindi nila ito madadaan sa propaganda o sa troll army... Matindi ang tama niyan,” Trillanes said.

“Next year, impeachment ulit dahil naka-depende yan sa ihip ng hangin. Pagka-nagbago ang ihip ng hangin, yan mismong congressmen na sumisipsip ngayon, yan din ang sasaksak sa likod niya,” he said.

Trillanes, along with Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, has filed a supplemental communication against Duterte before the ICC to make him accountable for alleged crimes against humanity over the bloody war on drugs.

Alejano earlier filed an impeachment complaint against Duterte in the House of Representatives, which later on dismissed it. —KBK, GMA News
