FIRST YEAR AS PNP CHIEF

Dela Rosa’s ups and downs make him think of theme park ride

PNP chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa compared his first year as the country's top cop to an amusement park ride of exhilirating ups and disheartening downs.

This developed as Dela Rosa claimed that the national police was winning President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs.

"Tuloy pa rin ang war on drugs, we will live and die on the war on drugs, this administration will live and die on war on drugs, wala nang atrasan," Dela Rosa said on Monday.

"Are you satisfied? Ako satisfied ako, we are winning the war, we are winning the war, we are winning the war, I am very satisfied," he added.

Asked how he would describe his first year as PNP chief, Dela Rosa said, "'Yung akin, Anchors Away, tataas ng husto tapos pag-baba parang hihigupin yung b—g mo, tapos akyat na naman hanggang makaihi ka, that’s how I describe my one year."

"Bakit?  'Pag lumabas ako, tuwang-tuwa ako, nagpapasalamat, parang high na high ka, nagpapasalamat, kahit saan magpunta, kahit sa abroad.  Pag-uwi mo sa Crame, mayroon pinatay na Koreano sa loob ng Crame, wow, bababa ka na naman parang gusto mo na mag-resign," Dela Rosa said.

"Tapos aakyat ka na naman, makakabawi na naman," he added.

Dela Rosa was referring to the time when the Philippines was praised abroad for its efforts against drugs and crime but he had to come home to a Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo getting killed right inside Camp Crame in October last year.

Dela Rosa said that he was satisfied as long as the people on the streets feel safe.

"I can honestly tell you, 'di sa nagmamayabang, 'yung mga tao sa kalsada nagsabi talaga na safe na sila ngayon, public opinion ang tinantanong ko," Dela Rosa said.  —Claire Layug/NB, GMA News
