Cops dismissed for major crimes will not be reinstated – PNP chief

Police officers who were dismissed because of their involvement in major crimes will not be reinstated, Philippine National Police Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa promised on Monday.

"I will give you the assurance na hanggang nandyan si Presidente [Rodrigo Duterte], five years, yang mga natanggal, wala ma re-instate," Dela Rosa said in a press briefing. "Kahit retired na ako, ilapit ko pa rin sa president, 'Sir, bakit nakabalik ay gago 'yan.'"

He added that among the police officers he would see banned from serving in the police force were those involved in the killing of businessman Jee Ick Joo and Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa. These policemen are facing permanent removal, depending on the results of a review and the president's signature.

"D?ismissed na Jee Ick Joo case, lahat accused doon. [Supt. Ma. Cristina] Nobleza, pirmahan ko ngayon.? Na review yung kay [Supt. Marvin] Marcos?," Bato summarized.?

Some four Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (AIDG) operatives were linked to the kidnapping and murder of Korean businessman Joo, while Nobleza was dismissed from the service due to her relationship with Abu Sayyaf member Reenor Lou Dongon.

Also up next for review was the case of Marvin Marcos, one of the police officers dismissed for his involvement in the killing of Mayor Espinosa.

However, dela Rosa said that he could not dismiss two so-called "narco-generals" without the president's approval.

"Third-level silang officers, yung appointing authority ay si president. Siya mag-pirma ng dismissal," Dela Rosa said. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
