PNP chief: Duterte threatened to kill Bulacan massacre suspects ‘out of dismay’

President Rodrigo Duterte's threats against the suspects involved in the June 27 massacre of a family in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan was only made "out of dismay," Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa said Wednesday.

"Wala naman siyang inutusan in particular. Wala man siyang sinabi na ikaw Bato patayin mo yan, wala naman siyang sinabing ganon diba? Out of dismay sa sitwasyon, galit na galit siya doon sa mga tao na 'yon na gumawa ng krimen," Dela Rosa told reporters after the oathtaking ceremony and donning of ranks on eight police officials at Camp Crame.

"Pero wala siyang sinabihan na ikaw hanapin mo 'yan patayin mo. Wala naman siyang sinabi na ganon," added the PNP chief.

Duterte on Monday said he wanted the suspects in Bulacan massacre dead.

"Sa kanila na ‘yan. Basta ako, sabi ko, patayin ko. Wala naman akong sinabi may inuutusan ako. Basta pagdating ng panahon, magkita tayo, patay ka,” he told reporters during a visit to the wake of Carlos’ wife Estrella, mother-in-law Auring, and his three children, Donnie, Ella, and Dexter Jr. at Northridge Royale Subdivision.

Two suspects in the killings, identified as Ronaldo Pacinos alias Inggo, and Rosevelt Sorema alias Ponga, have already been found dead.

Pacinos was found dead on Tuesday with multiple stab wounds, four of his fingers chopped off and a car's fan belt was wrapped around his neck.

Sorima, on the other hand, was shot inside his residence in San Jose del Monte on Wednesday. He was said to be the brother-in-law of a third suspect, Carmelino "Miling" Ibañes, who was arrested last week after confessing to the crime.

Ibañes earlier tagged Pacinos and alias Tony as his accomplices in the massacre.

The 26-year-old construction worker claimed being drunk and high on drugs when he broke into the victims' house. He, however, tested negative for illegal drug use.
