'GUSTO KO HERO NATIN'

Duterte wants to ban portraits of himself, other officials from gov't offices

President Rodrigo Duterte is planning to release an order barring government offices from displaying portraits of himself and other government officials, saying he wanted portraits of heroes there instead.

Duterte revealed this plan in a speech delivered before soldiers in Malacañang on Tuesday.

"I intend to issue a decree. Ipatanggal ko ‘yung mga litrato namin. Lalo na ‘yang litrato ni… Tapos litrato, pagpasok niya, litrato niya. Na-buang man ‘yung mga ganoon na tao," he said.

"Doon mo ilagay ‘yan sa mga pamilya ninyo, doon sa sala. Pati ‘yung akin," he added.

Duterte said he never liked the idea of displaying his photos even he was still the mayor of Davao City.

"Sa Davao, when I was Mayor, I prohibited the display of my picture. And I told the decks there to display instead the pictures of our heroes," he said.

The President, who once again sang praises for Lapu-Lapu during his speech, said he would rather see photos of Filipino heroes in government spaces.

He even took a jab at corrupt officials who display their portraits in government offices.

"Kami, wala pa kami. We have not yet arrived at that — mga  picture namin… I suggest you… I’ll begin, but I’ll issue the order. Gusto ko ‘yung mga hero natin. Ma-emulate ng mga bata. Eh ‘yung iba diyan sa picture limang beses na dumaan ng graft and corruption sa kaso eh," he said. —JST, GMA News
