Duterte ribs Angara for not clapping on tax reform: ‘Bantay ka lang sa eleksyon’

Senator Sonny Angara was singled out during President Rodrigo Duterte's second state address on Monday, as the President appealed to the Senate to pass his tax reform proposal.

“I call on the Senate to support my tax reform in full and to pass it with haste,” Duterte said, looking at the senators who were seated at the front row of the session hall.

Duterte then took notice that the senators were not clapping as he made his pitch for the administration’s initiative.

“Ayaw man magpalakpak, ah. Pati si ano wala. They are not clapping. Si Angara ayaw din mag-clap,” Duterte said.

By this time, the camera had already focused on Angara, who took Duterte’s statement as a joke.

“Bantay ka lang sa eleksyon, tingnan mo,” Duterte told the senator.

Angara, a re-electionist come 2019 polls, is the chairman of the Senate ways and means committee tasked to handle the discussions on the tax reform proposal. —KBK, GMA News
