Key terror leader in Marawi reported killed —AFP

A key leader of local terrorists in Marawi City was reportedly killed, the military said Sunday.

Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Restituto Padilla said the report came from Joint Task Force Marawi.

"This remains unconfirmed. We are still validating who it is and if this is true," Padilla said.

The military spokesman could not say when the terror leader was killed. He said they received the information on Sunday.

"The information that we got was that a leader died but we cannot yet ascertain who he is, no name yet," he added.

The military had said earlier that Maute brothers Abdullah and Omar and Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon had led the May 23 attack on Marawi City, which prompted President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of martial law in Mindanao. —ALG, GMA News
